Class A



  • A component (transistor, tube, Jfet etc) in Class A mode is biased to operate continuously through the entire cycle of an applied AC signal.

  • A Class A circuit will operate for 360 degrees (100%) of the signal, both positive and negative.


  • The maximum efficiency of a Cass A circuit is 25% for an capacitor coupled circuit and 50% for a transformer coupled circuit as in the output stage of a guitar amplifier
