Amplifier Class



  • An Amplifier class refers to the method of biasing a circuit in order to obtain either the least distortion or the maximum efficiency.

  • ClassA has no crossover distortion but is the least efficient method.

  • ClassB has the greatest distortion but the greatest efficiency.

  • ClassAB is a compromise between Classes A and B.

  • Most 50 and 100 watt amps are in Class AB.

  • ClassC is a non-linear class and is not used in audio
